● The only two mandatory fields you must fill in are “Composer” and “Lyricist.” If it is an instrumental track, you can insert the Composer and select and enter “instrumental” in the genre field.

● Some stores display the composers and lyricists of a release, and it is mandatory that you provide the real names in this field.

● Please note that iTunes and other stores also display the copyright owners.

I purchased a sample disc/samples from a website. Can I distribute my song with you?

  • You can distribute music that includes samples, as long as you have an agreement that allows you to use them commercially.
  • The authorization contract will be requested if there are any doubts, problems, or copyright claims regarding the samples.
  • However, we strongly recommend NOT monetizing such tracks through YouTube Content ID, as you are most likely not the only one using this sample and/or we may receive claims from the original owner of this song.

  • You can claim it by sending an email to informacion@bestmusic.com.mx and we will make the claim on your behalf.

What is considered “explicit content”?

The explicit content logo appears when the lyrics or content of a song contain one or more of the following criteria, which may be considered offensive or inappropriate for children:
  • Violent language (even one word can be considered violent);
  • References to violence and physical or mental abuse;
  • References to sexual content;
  • Discriminatory language.
  • Please be sure to specify songs or your release as explicit if any of the above requirements are met. iTunes may hide your song in the store if the content is not properly labeled.
  • As soon as you mark a song on your release as explicit, it will be marked as such in stores.
  • Releases with explicit content are not sold in countries such as Belarus, Burkina Faso, India, Nepal, and Uzbekistan.
  • Note: If no songs are marked as explicit and the “Parental Advisory Explicit Content” logo is used on the cover art, all songs will be marked as explicit.

Will you send me a notification when my music is online?

  • Yes, you will receive a notification when your release is online.
  • However, no store provides links to releases, although we are working to make this available soon.

  • the ISRCs and barcode once your release has been approved and delivered.
  • It is not possible to add a booklet to a release after it has been published.
  • All other modifications are possible and cost $10 per modification if applicable (free for Pro Unlimited customers).
  • If you want to change the title of the release or the artist name, please note that we will also need to update the cover art.
  • Therefore, please send us the new cover art along with your change request.

How can I unsubscribe from a release?

  • There is no cost to cancel a launch. Contact us by email and your launch will be removed from the platforms as soon as possible.

What does “Mastered for iTunes” mean?

  • ‘Mastered for iTunes’ is a label created for music that has been mastered and tested for release on iTunes. The requirements set by iTunes apply to standard studio mastering, so as an artist you need to ensure that your music is properly mastered. To receive this label, check that your sound engineer is an approved MFiT mastering engineer.
  • We can distribute your music and obtain the label later. To ensure that your songs have been mastered by an approved sound engineer, we need the name of the studio, address, and name, email, and phone number of the person who mastered the song, as the studio must be certified by Apple.

What releases can iTunes reject?

  • iTunes* is a very strict platform: some of the following content cannot be delivered to this store:
  • compilations of hit versions (there must be X original compositions in your release);
  • compilations of famous children’s lullabies* (there must be some original compositions in your release);
  • all types and series of “generic” content (e.g., recordings of nature sounds);
  • collections of loops, beats, etc.;
  • covers or sound-alikes of current chart hits;
  • karaoke content; covers that include nudity.
  • *All other stores accept this type of content, and we can distribute your release there.

How to publish a compilation

  • If your release has more than 3 artists listed on the tracks, then you will need to specify each artist name on the album. The artist name for the tracks should list each artist on each track.
  • You need to have licenses for all tracks you want to include on your compilation. If the compilation includes songs that you do not yet own, you need to obtain an appropriate license from the owner of the recordings. In most cases, this is the label that originally released the song. You will not be able to distribute your compilation through Best Music if you do not provide these agreements.
  • If your compilation contains covers, please read the article “How to distribute covers, edits, remixes, mashups” and indicate that the track is a cover.
  • Once you have obtained the license for all the songs you want to include in your compilation, you can upload your release to Best Music.
  • Release details: start by specifying “Compilation (has more than 3 main artists).”
  • Very important: in the “Song details,” you must specify the original publisher(s) and the original composer(s) and lyricist(s).

How to distribute a medley

  • Indicate that your song is a medley by specifying “Medley”;
  • Use the following format for the title of your medley:
  • “title of song 1 / title of song 2 / title of song 3, etc.”;
  • Name the publishers, composers, and lyricists of all songs if your medley contains covers.

How to distribute a classical music release

Classical music releases have a more specific format than other types of music. Works that are not in the public domain, such as contemporary pieces, are not subject to the standard classical music format.

Please see http://imslp.org/ for more information about the format of classical music works (composer names, works, movement titles, etc.).

Here are the most important guidelines to consider:

Title of a Classical Music Release

The album title should preferably be formatted as in this example:

Composer’s Last Name: Title of Work

[Example: Chopin: Nocturnes, Op. 9]

Adding the first letter of the first name before the last name is also acceptable:

[Example: F. Chopin: Nocturnes, Op. 9]

Artists on Classical Music Releases

Performers must be listed as principal artists, and this may include symphonies, orchestras, choirs, soloists, and conductors.

At the release level, the most important roles should be indicated (orchestra, choir, conductor, principal soloists).

At the individual song level, the artists can be indicated in more detail.

Composers should not be included as artists unless they are performing on the recording.

Song Titles

This is the standard format for classical music song titles:

Title of the work, Catalog Number: Movement Number. Movement Title.

[Example: Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67: I. Allegro con brio]

This is the format for operas:

Opera Title, Catalog Number, Act: “Song”

Example: Don Giovanni, K. 527, Act II: “Il mio tesoro intanto”

Additional details about songs, such as “Arranged by X,” should be added in parentheses after the title, in the title field.

The key and catalog number are not always required.

Please see http://imslp.org for more information about the specific format for different classical pieces (including composers’ names, titles of works and movements, etc.).

Composers

You can see http://imslp.org/ for more details on the correct spelling of composers’ names.

Composers must be listed at the track level as contributors.

Please enter the composer’s full name and do not use abbreviations.
